Experts discuss future of labor market at COP29

High level conference dedicated to Global Labor Resilience Index 2024 has been held at ISESCO pavilion within the COP29 conference.

According to Report, the key issue of discussions are challenges to face the labor market in the near future.

"80% to 85% of tomorrow's jobs will not exist, the issue with today's education is that we are teaching our youth knowledge that might become obsolete in the future", Dr. Salim AlMalik, ICESCO Director General said.

He noted that green economy is one of the ways to face the challenges of tomorrow, therefore the focus should be on providing children with green education and promoting its values and benefits.

"ICESCO launched a platform for resilience to foster various tools of environmental resilience and professional capacity building in climate action," Dr. Salim AlMalik said.

Dr. Azar Bayramov, Director General of the OIC Labour Centre, noted that the goal of the center is to assist Member States in facing labour-related issues, including in developing labour standards and social reforms.

"SMEs need more training in skills related to jobs of the future, while countries need to implement policies that ease career transition for young people and women, particularly in fields related to climate action," Bayramov said.

Dr. Fadi Farrar, Senior partner at Whiteshield, said labour and job creation must include a comprehensive national policy that combine investment, innovation, and educational policies to create more jobs.

On his part, Dr. Raed Safadi, Chief Economist at Whiteshield, delivered a presentation on the Global Labour Resilience Index, during which he defined the resilience index, as the capacity of labour markets to withstand temporary disruptions.
