Event on "Radiation and Climate Change: New Challenges" held at COP29

An event on "Radiation and Climate Change: New Challenges" was held at the Azerbaijan Pavilion during COP29, organized by the State Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Activity Regulation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Report informs, citing the Ministry of Emergency Situations, that the event was attended by representatives from the ministries of Emergency Situations, Digital Development and Transport, Agriculture, Energy, Ecology and Natural Resources, State Water Resources Agency, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The head of the State Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Activity Regulation, Nijat Aliyev, spoke about measures to ensure nuclear and radiological safety in Azerbaijan, infrastructure improvements, emergency preparedness, safe management of radioactive waste, radiological monitoring, and environmental protection.

During the event, IAEA Department Head Juan Wei, Head of Nuclear Research Department at the Agency for Innovation and Digital Development Jalal Naghiyev, and Head of Plant Growing Organization and Monitoring Department at the Ministry of Agriculture Seymur Safarli discussed the importance of the relationship between nuclear activities and climate change.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session with participants.
