EU Commissioner Hoekstra expects good results from COP29

European Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra has expressed hope that by the end of the week at COP29, positive results will be achieved from the negotiations conducted during the conference, Report informs.

He was speaking on November 18 at a press conference during COP29.

"I sincerely believe that despite the challenging geopolitical context, we can and must achieve a good result by the end of this week," said the Commissioner.

He noted that we have not yet reached the target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees.

"It's also quite clear that technically, at least, we can do this. Thus, this means that the problem we face is really political," said Hoekstra.

The Commissioner also called on the COP29 team to reach out to parties to submit their NCQG texts.

"As always, the co-chairs bear a clear and heavy responsibility for preparing this document. This is truly a conference of parties, and ministers are ready to work," he said.
