ECO pledges support for Azerbaijan's green transition initiatives

During his participation in the high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Asad Majeed Khan.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry told Report that the meeting focused on the cooperation between Azerbaijan and ECO, as well as the prospects for collaboration within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with ECO and is always ready and interested in facilitating the expansion of regional cooperation within the Organization. He noted that enhancing cooperation in the fields of economy, energy security, and transport-communication is a priority for both sides.

The importance of expanding cooperation among the Organization's member states, thereby contributing to the overall economic development in the region, was underscored. In line with the Organization's activities and goals, the significance of increasing intra-regional and inter-regional trade was reiterated.

The Azerbaijani side informed ECO about the current regional situation, restoration and reconstruction works in the liberated territories, and the current state of the normalization and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Secretary General Asad Majeed Khan highly appreciated Azerbaijan's active and productive participation in the Organization's activities, stressing that Baku is considered a reliable partner for ECO member states. He stated that ECO attaches special importance to the idea of transitioning to a "green" and clean environment and is ready to provide appropriate support in implementing the steps and initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in this direction.

The importance of selecting the city of Shusha as the ECO Tourism Capital for 2026 was noted, and ideas for possible joint events during this year were discussed. The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
