Cyril Ramaphosa: South Africa remains committed to decarbonisation and green transition

As the global community searches for new solutions in the sphere of sustainable development, it is necessary to recognize the destructive consequences of climate change for developing countries, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said at the BRICS summit via videoconference, Report informs.

"South Africa remains committed to a just transition to a low-carbon economy and global emission reduction, and shares the principle of common but differentiated responsibility," he said.

The president emphasized that countries with developing economies suffer the most from climate change problems, but they bear the least responsibility.

"It is important that developed industrial countries fulfill their climate obligations to ensure a fair and equal transition. It is also necessary that these actions do not hinder the development of countries in the global South and do not exacerbate economic inequality," he added.
