A financial resilience strategy and emergency fund for combating climate change is being proposed, Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada and Chairman of the Caribbean Community, said during his speech at the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Summit held within COP29 in Baku on November 13, Report informs.
According to the prime minister, Grenada has been experiencing serious climate-related problems for 11 months.
"Most of the Caribbean islands have experienced major floods. Our Sustainable Development Goals are in question. There are major gaps in the Caribbean region. We also need to address the financial gaps."
The prime minister stated that there is a need to create a financial resilience strategy and emergency fund:
"We cannot work alone against new challenges. Therefore, we call on everyone for partnership."
