COP29 witnesses outcry against human rights violations in colonies

During the COP29 climate conference, representatives from colonized territories staged a protest in the "blue zone" against the widespread violations of indigenous peoples' rights.

According to Report, the protesters demanded an end to the exploitative policies of colonial powers and the rectification of their severe consequences, particularly the damage inflicted upon the environment and the health of local populations.

Indigenous representatives condemned the gross human rights violations perpetrated by colonial states in overseas territories and the grave harm caused to native inhabitants by nuclear tests conducted in these colonies.

The demonstration was organized by residents of overseas territories to make their voices heard by the international community. Protesters chanted slogans such as "Stop human rights abuses in overseas territories," "Pay compensation to affected populations," "Restore the damaged environment," "Hear the voice of indigenous peoples," and "The consequences of nuclear testing in overseas territories are killing people."

Participants emphasized the importance of thoroughly investigating the contemporary consequences of colonialism and the need for decisive action by the international community.

The protesters called for building broader international solidarity against colonialism and taking stronger political and legal steps to ensure the rights of indigenous peoples.

This is the first actio held by the Azerbaijani organization in the "blue zone" within COP29.
