COP29 to feature Ocean Pavilion to discuss climate crisis

Students, faculty, and staff from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California (San Diego) will participate in the COP29 climate conference in Baku, Report informs referring to the Institute's announcement.

It notes that COP29 will feature the Ocean Pavilion, organized by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and other leading global ocean organizations to highlight the ocean's fundamental role in climate change.

Located in the Blue Zone, the Ocean Pavilion will serve as a central venue for COP29 delegates and international climate negotiators to exchange ideas on addressing the climate crisis through ocean science and solutions, reads the report.

The ocean can help solve some of the most important climate challenges, from stabilizing Earth's climate to sustainably providing food for the population and protecting marine species, said Margaret Leinen, director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Vice Chancellor for Marine Sciences at the University of California.
