COP29: Sustainable Urban Development and Environmental Challenges forum kicks off in Baku

The COP29: Sustainable Urban Planning and Ecological Challenges forum has begun at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC), Report informs.

Within the framework of the five-day forum, an exhibition of models made from waste called "Second Life - Through the Eyes of Designers", panel discussions, workshops, an art competition, cleaning and tree planting will be organized.

The opening ceremony of the forum was attended by AzUAC Rector Gulchohra Mammadova, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Rauf Hajiyev, member of the COP29 organizing committee, MP Sevinj Fataliyeva, and Deputy Head of Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-leader of the COP29 Presidency Action Agenda team Jala Ibrahimova as official guests.

Rector Gulchohra Mammadova stated that this forum can contribute to the preparation period for COP29 that Azerbaijan will host.

She noted that the event is being held at the initiative of the university's students: "Holding COP29 in Azerbaijan is an indicator of our country's growing reputation in the international arena. We believe that this event will be held at the highest level. In today's forum, students are trying to contribute to the fight against climate change and spread COP ideas through their projects and handicrafts."

On the first day of the forum, panel discussions will be organized on the topics "Sustainability factors in modern urban planning", "Inefficient use of energy as a cause of climate change" and "Problems of water use and ecological sustainability".

On the second day, model preparation using waste, SDG-themed paintings on flowerpots, students' proposals on sustainable urban development, discussion of new project ideas and exchange of opinions will be carried out.

On the third and fourth days of the forum, cleaning and tree planting actions will be organized.

On the last day, the forum's closing ceremony will be held, and distinguished participants will be awarded by the Organizing Committee.
