COP29 president: ‘Important that we hear all opinions, develop program built on consensus, and find shared solutions’

“As the COP 29 Presidency, it is important that we hear all opinions, develop a program built on consensus, and find shared solutions that empower everyone for climate action,” Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, President of COP29 Mukhtar Babayev said at the 29th High-Level Meeting “Pathway to COP29 Sustainable & Resilient Future” in Baku, Report informs.

“We are committed to delivering COP 29 in an inclusive, transparent, and impartial manner,” he said.

“During these past months, our team has undertaken extensive and insightful consultations with Parties, non-party stakeholders, and heads of relevant international organizations. We saw a strong commitment from all Parties and stakeholders to work together to address the impacts of our common climate challenge. These meetings have been an opportunity to work with all to find every opportunity to enhance ambition and enable action,” he noted.

“During the Petersberg Climate Dialogue, we set out the vision for COP29 – to enhance ambition and enable action – and now we are ready to move from a broad plan to more specific pathways. To summarize the two pillars of the plan and how they fit together: On the one hand we are working to support all Parties to raise their ambition through their national climate action plans, national adaption plans and transparency reports.

As signals of ambition, these plans and reports can build trust as well as guide investment. And on the other hand, we are working to enable action by agreeing a fair and ambitious new climate finance goal, finalizing Article 6, strengthening global financial institutions, and ensuring the private sector commits to climate action,” he added.
