Select participants to be granted immunity for their words and actions during COP29

Certain participants of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be granted immunity for their words and actions during the conference.

The event, set to take place in November in Azerbaijan, has included this provision in a bill that will be discussed at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis on October 8, according to Report.

According to the bill, members of the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and their alternates will not face legal proceedings for their words or actions carried out within their official capacities related to their participation in the CDM meeting. Additionally, representatives of observer organizations will be exempt from liability for their spoken or written words and actions taken in connection with their activities at the pre-sessional meetings, the conference, and the meetings of the framework convention.

Furthermore, participants accredited by the secretariat to attend the pre-sessional meetings and who have received badges will also be shielded from legal proceedings for their words and actions.
