Chief negotiator for COP29 reveals presidency priorities

The chief negotiator, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev spoke about the main directions of work of the COP29 team and noted that the process of preparing the final documents of the conference has not yet begun, Report informs.

He was speaking at the meeting “A Sustainable Path to a Green Future: Joint Actions at COP29 and Beyond” within the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, which began its work in Baku on May 1.

“The COP29 team is working in three main areas on substantive issues. Firstly, preparation for the negotiation process. The negotiation process on the final documents of COP29 has not yet begun, but in order to prepare for this process, active consultations are being held, including with participants process, non-parties, and with various states, to study their position. As a second direction, we received and analyzed information about the initiatives of the COP29 Presidency and other countries and organizations and, based on them, we are preparing an agenda for our activities. And, finally, the third direction - the measures that Azerbaijan should take at the national level, what steps to take to set an example on a global scale, consultations are also being held in this direction,” Rafiyev said.
