CARICOM Secretary General says important to use AI for ecosystem protection

Artificial intelligence holds a special place in the fight against climate change, the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Carla Barnett said at the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Summit within COP29 in Baku.

According to Report, she noted that Caribbean states account for less than 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions: "We are observing sea level rise, but we cannot cope with this alone. That's why we are talking about artificial intelligence capabilities in this field. We believe it's possible to use artificial intelligence in ecosystem protection. Specialists are seriously studying the climate problem. However, they say that preventing this problem is difficult," she said.

According to her, CARICOM is developing special policies and programs and can contribute to solving these issues. "We ask the international community to take appropriate measures and allocate funds. This work should begin in 2025. It is also very important to keep global warming at 1.5 degrees. We call on international financial institutions and the World Bank for more extensive work."
