It is necessary to use all available opportunities to facilitate access to climate finance, Burundi's Infrastructure Minister Dieudonne Dukundane stated during the High-Level Roundtable on Green Urban Transportation at the Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate, held as a part of COP29, Report informs.
The minister emphasized that countries should agree on prioritizing the greening of infrastructure as the first step towards combating climate change.
"Access to climate finance is not easy. Therefore, we must do our best to simplify access to these financing opportunities," he stated.
Dukundane pointed out the growing number of motor vehicles in Burundi's cities and their evident impact on climate change. "The only solution is to shift the model, that is, to start a metro or tram project to limit fuel dependency in our transportation services. The good thing is that the project we have prepared can easily attract the interest of the private sector," he added.
