Azerbaijani ombudsman urges human rights organizations to show solidarity in climate action

Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights Sabina Aliyeva held an interactive discussion on "Human Rights-Based Climate Justice: The Role of National Human Rights Institutions" on the sidelines of COP29, Report informs, citing the Ombudsman's office.

Aliyeva emphasized the important role of the human right commissioners and national human rights institutions in ensuring climate justice, protecting the right to a healthy environment, and supporting vulnerable groups most affected by climate change. The ombudsman called on international human rights organizations to show solidarity in the fight against climate change.

At the event, experts presented reports on the need to align environmental protection with Sustainable Development Goals, opportunities to strengthen the role of human right commissioners in ensuring climate justice, and other relevant issues. The interactive discussions addressed the impact of climate change on human rights, existing problems and their solutions, as well as successful examples of work in those areas.
