As part of the Diplomatic Week organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas in Grand Bahama, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Cuba Ruslan Rzayev spoke about COP29 at the panel discussion "Sustainable Development Agenda for Climate Vulnerable States," Report informs referring to the diplomatic mission.
The ambassador provided information about Azerbaijan's preparation for COP29 and activities within the presidency.
It was noted that the country's vision is based on two directions: raising ambitions and stimulating action. He emphasized the important role of financing as one of the key tools for ensuring member countries' commitment to national plans and transparency, turning ambitions into actions, reducing emissions, adapting to climate change, and addressing damage.
Rzayev noted that Azerbaijan, while presiding over COP29, listens to all stakeholders, cooperates with them, conducts broad discussions, strives to hear everyone's voice, consider their opinions, and achieve inclusive results through finding common solutions.
The diplomat spoke about the presidency's activities regarding Small Island Developing States (SIDS) vulnerable to climate change, noting that Azerbaijan considers it its moral duty to help these states both materially and politically, including within the Commonwealth of Nations.
During his speech, the ambassador also informed about global initiatives announced within the Azerbaijan Presidency's Action Agenda for COP29, noting that these initiatives aim to promote climate action, raise ambitions, and stimulate actions related to climate change. The panel discussion continued with a question and answer session.
