Azerbaijan Railways has achieved success within the framework of Nationally Determined Contributions, including carbon emission reduction, railway electrification, and transition to alternative energy sources in production, Tural Abbasli, advisor to the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), said at an event organized by the Marrakesh Partnership transport coordination group within COP29.
He noted that since 2023, ADY has managed to achieve 5% reduction in energy consumption, 16% reduction in natural gas consumption, 23% reduction in water consumption, and 9% decline in carbon emissions.
Last year, 100% of passenger transportation and 80% of freight transportation were carried out using electricity, he added.
