Azerbaijan, OPEC to hold high-level dialogue ahead of COP29

Azerbaijan and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will hold a high-level dialogue today in Vienna in preparation for COP29 in Baku, Report informs, citing the OPEC secretariat.

“OPEC Secretary General Haitham al-Ghais warmly welcomes the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and President-designate of COP29, who will visit the Organization's Secretariat in Vienna today. The parties will hold a high-level dialogue ahead of COP29, which will take place in Baku in November,” the cartel said in a statement.

OPEC notes that the dialogue will be chaired by Mukhtar Babayev and Haitham al-Ghais and will bring together senior officials from the cartel countries and non-OPEC countries participating in the OPEC+ Cooperation Charter.

“This meeting will create a unique opportunity for all delegates to actively engage with the COP29 President in a constructive and inclusive dialogue,” the cartel said.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024. The decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11, 2023. During the event, Baku will host up to 80,000 foreign guests.
