As part of the Green Customs Initiative, Azerbaijan is implementing a range of customs concessions to support a sustainable ecosystem, said Shahin Baghirov, Chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC), Report informs.
Speaking at the event titled ‘Green Customs: Facilitating Sustainable Trade, Innovation, and Development with Standards" held within the framework of COP29, Baghirov highlighted that green customs are designed to ensure the efficient and secure operation of international trade. "As a result, customs authorities can play a role in protecting the environment while supporting legitimate trade," he stated.
Baghirov also pointed out that green customs implement measures that promote environmental protection and related activities. "This concept is of great importance in the development of ecological sustainability and international trade. By applying environmentally friendly rules and practices, customs authorities can create a better balance between facilitating legitimate trade and protecting our planet," he added.
The chairman noted that this approach allows customs authorities to make processes more efficient while reducing the environmental impact of transportation. "Customs administrations are becoming an important part of global environmental protection efforts by ensuring the positive contribution of trade activities to sustainable development and environmental protection," he said.
Baghirov emphasized that Azerbaijan offers tax and tariff exemptions for imported electric vehicles, charging devices, and vehicles running on alternative fuels."We encourage the use of ecologically friendly vehicles and ensure the application of energy-saving technologies in customs management," Baghirov concluded.
