Asset Assavbayev: TRACECA cargo transportation volume will reach 7-7.5 million tons in 2024

The Middle Corridor is in high demand, with dynamic cargo flow development recorded annually, Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA, Asset Assavbayev, said in an interview with Report

Cargo can be transported through this corridor and it has sufficient capacity at this stage, he said.

"Yes, it requires development and resolution of bottlenecks. This is exactly what countries are working on, with intensive discussions and solution development taking place," he said.

According to Assavbayev, participating countries have adopted an action plan aimed at increasing the corridor's capacity to 10 million tons per year.

"This figure of 10 million tons is planned to be achieved in the next 2 years, that is, in 2025-2026. For example, over 6.4 million tons of cargo have already been transported across the Caspian Sea in the first 10 months of this year. Therefore, we expect to reach 7-7.5 million tons this year," he noted.

The Secretary General also highly praised the ministerial roundtable held within COP29 on "Sustainable, Digital Middle Corridor and Beyond."

"It's important to note that the roundtable focused on relevant issues, including digitalization and sustainability of the Middle Corridor," he said.
