Andrej Bojic: World Climate Summit and COP29 must have common goals

The ongoing climate summit in New York and the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in November in Baku should unite around common issues related to climate finance, former Vice-President of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, member of the COP Bureau Andrej Bojic told Report.

He explained that this includes the creation and functioning of carbon markets, as well as the exchange of knowledge and technology for the transition to a carbon-free economy from developed to less developed countries.

He added that the World Climate Summit, along with the COP, is one of the key platforms for interaction between the public and private sectors.

"The forum is an excellent platform for B2B discussions and events, and the preparation of a platform for negotiations between states," Bojic said. In his opinion, it is impossible to achieve success in the climate process without deeper cooperation between the public and private sectors.

"For me personally, the most important initiative during the summit will be the work in the field of financial strategies and regulatory policy. The results of this work should be presented for discussion during the COP in Baku," Bojic emphasized.

He also noted that 2024 is a special year for the World Climate Summit, as it marks his 15th anniversary of participation in the COP.
