Andrej Bojic: Azerbaijan can set example of climate transition

Azerbaijan’s potential in wind energy and hydrogen production provides a good basis for combating climate change, former vice-president of the Framework Convention on Climate Change, member of the COP Bureau, Andrej Bojic, told Report.

“The EU has been an example of good practice when it comes to climate policy and I am sure that cooperation with the EU in the field of climate can bring benefits to every country. Azerbaijan, on the other hand, with COP29 enters the group of countries that will forever be written on the map of climate processes,” he added.

“As a country that is abundant in fossil fuels that are not inexhaustible, but that has great potential in renewable sources, on the other hand, Azerbaijan has a huge chance to show by its example that by using new and modern technologies, through clear regulations and a financial framework provided by, for example, carbon markets, or by building "smart cities", or by introducing the ESG concept in companies, everyone can be a winner of the energy transition towards new energy sources, new forms of economy and a new approach to the challenge of climate change,” he noted.
