Anar Guliyev: Our goal is to transform urban spaces into sustainable ecosystems

The Urban Planning Day within the framework of COP29 provides a unique platform for development and opens up opportunities for engaging in meaningful and constructive discussions on pressing issues of the urban agenda, Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan, said at a press conference on Wednesday, according to Report.

"Today, we have successfully started the Urban Planning Day within COP29, and while it is still ongoing, the first half of the day has been very productive. We have concluded the work of the 3rd Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change," he stated.

Guliyev emphasized that the main goal of the day is to ensure that the urban agenda aligns with the climate agenda. "Today's 3rd Ministerial Meeting specifically supports this approach. By bringing all parties together at COP29, Azerbaijan demonstrates a vision for the future where multilevel and collaborative actions will enable addressing climate challenges and transforming urban spaces into sustainable ecosystems," he added.

The chairman also acknowledged the important initiatives that have laid the groundwork for today's discussion. "These initiatives have collectively created a space for dialogue, strengthening cooperation, and addressing key urbanization issues, which will likely mark the beginning of creating a map, a multi-sectoral action plan for sustainable and healthy cities," Guliyev noted.
