Ambassador: Azerbaijan will hold COP29 at level of high international standards

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held by relevant government departments at a level consistent with high international standards, according to the article of Azerbaijan's ambassador to Sweden, Zaur Ahmadov, published in the country's Svenska Dagbladet newspaper, Report informs.

In his article, the diplomat mentioned that the decision on Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 in 2024 was adopted unanimously, and this happened against the background of positive progress towards normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Also, the first preparatory meeting for COP29 was held under the chairmanship of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and confidence was expressed by the relevant state institutions that this prestigious event will be held at the highest international standards.

Ahmadov informed about the successive steps taken by official Baku in the direction of transition to green energy, as well as the Black Sea submarine cable established by Azerbaijan and its partners to export green energy to Europe.

It is noted that Azerbaijan, considered a reliable partner by the international community, was previously a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, and currently heads the Non-Aligned Movement, which is the second largest institution after the UN.

The ambassador emphasized that the country has the experience of successfully hosting many prestigious international events, such as the Eurovision Song Contest, the European Games, the European League final, European football championship meetings, Formula 1, and the International Astronautical Congress.
