At the COP29 climate conference, African civil society organizations have called upon the global community to deliver on their promises and set more ambitious, equitable climate finance goals, Report informs.
During a briefing held at the Africa Pavilion, representatives emphasized the need for alignment between the creation of a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance and Africa's adaptation ambitions, currently under discussion in the GGA (Global Goal on Adaptation) negotiations. The spirit of the Paris Agreement and the imperatives of climate justice must form the foundation of Climate Finance and the NCQG.
The Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) urged developed nations to honor their obligations under the Paris Agreement, realize the NCQG in Baku, and ensure a sustained flow of climate finance to address the climate crisis.
African NGO representatives also expressed their desire to foster mutual solidarity with Azerbaijani civil society organizations and media at COP29, aiming to better understand and appreciate key issues relevant to the African context. They demanded direct climate justice to achieve global equity in climate finance.
