Volkswagen reports 2.3% decline in global vehicle sales for 2024

German automotive giant Volkswagen AG has reported a 2.3% decrease in vehicle sales for the year 2024.

Report informs via Interfax that the group's total sales, encompassing passenger car brands such as Skoda, Seat, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Porsche, as well as commercial vehicles from MAN and Scania, amounted to 9.03 million units, down from 9.24 million in the previous year.

Annual deliveries in Western Europe saw a slight decline of 0.4% to 3.3 million units, while Central and Eastern Europe witnessed a 1.7% increase, reaching 512,000 vehicles.

North America emerged as a bright spot, with sales rising by 6.4% compared to 2023, totaling 1.06 million units.

Volkswagen's strongest growth was observed in South America, where sales surged by an impressive 14.7%, resulting in 594,300 vehicles sold.

However, the Asia-Pacific region proved to be a challenging market, with sales falling by 10.3% to 3.2 million units. The company attributed this decline to intense competition in China, where sales dropped by 9.5%.

The sales of electric vehicles (BEVs) also experienced a setback, with a 3.4% decrease to 744,800 units.
