Retail trade turnover grows by more than 3% in Azerbaijan

In January–November 2023, the retail trade network sold 51.3 billion manats ($30.18 billion) worth of goods to consumers, including 28.7 billion manats ($16.88 billion) worth of food, beverage, and tobacco wares and 22.6 billion manats ($13.29 billion) worth of non-foods, Report informs, citing the State Statistical Committee.

Compared to January–November 2022, the retail trade rose by 3.6%, food, beverage, and tobacco products went up by 2.4%, and non-food products surged by 5.1%.

During the reporting period, 51.7% of funds spent by buyers on final consumption goods were for food, 4.2% for drinks and tobacco products, 14.7% for textiles, clothing, and footwear, 5.5% for motor gasoline and diesel fuel, 4.9% for electrical goods and furniture, 2.2% for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, 1.1% for the purchase of computers, telecommunications equipment, and printed products, and 15.7% for other non-food products.

During the reporting period, the cost of goods sold by economic entities in the non-state sector increased in real terms by 3.7% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 99.7% of the total retail trade turnover.

Compared to January-November 2022, the retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 3% for enterprises, by 3.7% for individual entrepreneurs, and by 4.1% for markets and fairs.

On average, an Azerbaijani resident spent 459.2 manats ($270.12) per month on goods, including 256.8 manats ($151.06) on food, drinks and tobacco products, and 202.4 manats (119.06) on non-food products.
