Rebuilding Karabakh: 86% of economically active population employed in liberated territories

In a significant milestone for post-war recovery, 86% of the economically active population in the liberated territories of Karabakh and East Zangazur has been provided with employment opportunities, Report informs, citing the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA).

Speaking at an event dedicated to the implementation of the "Karabakh SME" project in 2024, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Sahil Babayev highlighted that since the end of the Second Karabakh War, over 25,300 individuals have been supported in finding employment. Among them, 12,200 have been included in the self-employment program, 1,054 have undergone professional training, and the rest have been placed in suitable jobs. Additionally, through social partnerships, small farms have been established for 524 family members of martyrs and war veterans.

The "Karabakh SME" project, a collaborative effort by KOBİA, the State Employment Agency, the Development Corporation, the National Center for Educational Technologies, and with financial support from PASHA Holding, aims to support Second Karabakh War veterans, martyrs' families, and other socially vulnerable groups.

Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of KOBİA, reported that within the project's framework, 70 small and medium-sized businesses were established in Fuzuli, Zabukh (Lachin district), Aghali (Zangilan district), as well as in Baku, Ganja, Barda, and Goranboy in 2024. Since the project's launch in 2023, a total of 120 small and medium-sized businesses have been created. Participants in the project received training to enhance their business skills and were provided with necessary equipment as part of the self-employment program.
