There is great potential to expand economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), particularly in the areas of sustainable development and energy security, which can make substantial contributions to mutual goals, Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said at the event dedicated to the National Day of the UAE, Report informs.
“Our cooperation in trade relations and investments continues to grow steadily. We place special importance on deepening our ties with the United Arab Emirates, a friendly nation and a reliable partner, with the aim of further diversifying our joint activities.
It is gratifying to note that the cooperation between ADNOC and SOCAR, the leading energy companies of our respective countries, continues to grow and strengthen. ADNOC serves as a key partner in the Absheron gas field project, one of the most promising energy initiatives in Azerbaijan, while SOCAR actively contributes to the development of the SARB and UMM Lulu oil and gas fields in the United Arab Emirates,” the minister highlighted.
Jabbarov underlined that Azerbaijan remains steadfast in its commitment to transitioning toward a green and resilient economy: “Our climate objectives are both ambitious and achievable, targeting a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To realize this vision, we are implementing large-scale initiatives across renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable resource management, aligning with international climate action frameworks.”
He also added that following the hosting of COP28 in Dubai in 2023, Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 this year underscores our dedication to being a leader in global environmental initiatives.
The minister further stated that the United Arab Emirates holds a significant role as a key partner in Azerbaijan's transition to green energy.
“The UAE's Masdar company has been instrumental in driving this process forward. With a capacity of 230 MW, the Garadagh Solar Power Plant, inaugurated by Masdar last year, is a shining example of our successful collaboration in the renewable energy sector. It stands as the first renewable energy plant in Azerbaijan developed with foreign investment and is the largest solar power plant in the region,” Jabbarov noted.
“I am confident that as Azerbaijan progresses on the path to a green economy, our cooperation with the UAE will continue to develop, ensuring sustained success based on mutual trust, a shared vision, and strong economic ties. The liberation of our historic territories from occupation has paved the way for regional cooperation. The Azerbaijani government aims to restore these territories and transform the region into a hub of peace and collaboration. Environmental protection remains a key priority in our restoration and reconstruction efforts.”
