EU ready to invest in various projects in Baku port 

The delegation led by the EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi visited Baku International Sea Trade Port, Report informs, citing the Port of Baku.

Director-General of Baku International Sea Trade Port Taleh Ziyadov told the EU Commissioner that the Port of Baku plays an active role in the development and promotion of the Middle Corridor between Europe and Asia.

Ziyadov stressed that the Port of Baku is closely cooperating with the EU. Since 2016, 5 TAIEX and 2 long-term technical aid projects have been implemented.
"We exchanged experience with European partners on digitalization, port operations, management, human resources, the establishment of a Regional Training Center in the port, labor, environmental protection, and public relations. Noting the successful work in Green Port and digitalization of operations, the Director-General expressed confidence that these measures will continue in a wider format in the future. The European Commissioner was informed that the training of port staff during the implementation of the project in Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Barcelona, Valencia, Venlo, and other leading ports is a serious investment in human development. Acquisition of EcoPorts certification for the first time in the EU Caspian region and a number of ISO certificates within the project can also be considered as major achievements within the project," he said.

The EU Commissioner said that the Port of Baku is in the EU's attention in terms of ensuring sustainable transport links: "The EU is ready to invest in various projects in the port, and will continue to support digitalization and green ports. All these steps will ensure that the Port of Baku becomes a reliable hub in the Caspian Basin."

At the end of the meeting, the commissioner got acquainted with the dry bulk terminal of Baku Port.
