The transport sector accounts for approximately 15% of emissions in Azerbaijan, the Deputy Minister of Energy and COP29 CEO, Elnur Soltanov, said at an event on "Sustainable Transport for the Future," Report informs.
"About 5% of emissions come from air transport, 2% from maritime transport, and 1% from railways," Soltanov stated.
The deputy minister said that in 2022, Azerbaijan's total emissions were more than 61 million tons: "Azerbaijan's emissions are about one-thousandth of global emissions."
According to him, a nationally determined contributions (NDC) document has been prepared for Azerbaijan: "This document forms the basis of climate discussions because countries' commitments and climate action plans are presented through this document."
