EasyJet to cut free hand luggage allowance

From February, EasyJet passengers will only be able to take a single small bag that fits under the seat in front of them into the cabin – unless they pay an extra fee.

From 10 February 2021, the seat you have booked will determine what bags you are able to bring on board an EasyJet flight.

All customers can bring onboard one small cabin bag (maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm), and this must fit under the seat in front of them.
Customers who have booked an ‘upfront’ or ‘extra legroom’ seat can also bring a large cabin bag (maximum size 56 x 45 x 25 cm), which must fit in the overhead locker. These seats can be selected at the time of booking or at any time before your check-in.

EasyJet Plus cardholders and ‘flexi’ fare customers will also continue to have an additional large cabin bag included in their booking, subject to space on board.

If you take a large cabin bag to the departure gate without the correct seat selection, EasyJet will place this in the hold, and charges will apply.

These policies will come into effect for all travel from 10 February 2021. For travel until that date, the existing cabin baggage policy applies.

EasyJet claims the size of its under-seat cabin bag and large overhead cabin bag ‘remain among the most generous for air travel’ and points out that there continues to be no weight limit for any cabin baggage.
