The car market in the country has faced severe changes since the spread of the pandemic. For example, the automobile market in the capital has been closed. On the other side, problems occur in the import of vehicles. Deterioration in buying power of the people and coronavirus restrictions also affected sales.
Expert in transport Elmaddin Muradli told Report: “The market has declined significantly. The auto markets in the capital are closed, but they may be open in districts where the government did not apply a strict quarantine regime. However, the prices in those regions are up. As the purchasing power is low, the automobile prices went down on the internet. The costs of new cars have also decreased. The prices of well-known models dropped AZN 10-15,000 since the beginning of the year. Today, vehicles with high fuel consumption are put for sale.
Moreover, some automobiles have not been sold yet for a few months. According to traders, the purchasing power is too low. For instance, the price of a car, which was AZN 15,000, fell every week or month by AZN 500-1,000 to AZN 10-11,000.”
The expert also spoke about the scammers: “Some scammers appeared in the automobile market. They post photos of cars on the internet resource in the regions and set a lower price. For example, a car, of which the price is AZN 10,000, is offered at AZN 6-7,000. They contact people and demand money to bring the car to Baku, saying the money is needed to pay for gasoline or something. People transfer AZN 100-200 to their bank account. After transferring the money, people cannot contact them.”
