The halal label on products in Azerbaijan has no legal or technical basis, Ilham Bayramov, the director-general of the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute (AZSTANDART), said at the Azerbaijan Halal Business and Tourism Forum (AZHAB Forum), Report informs.
He noted that until now, the main subject of certification has been meat and dairy products: "Today, the halal sign on meat and dairy products sold in markets does not mean that the product meets the standards of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC)."
According to Bayramov, under current legislation, to carry out certification activities for halal products and services in Azerbaijan, it is necessary to be accredited by the Azerbaijan Accreditation Center.
