Azerbaijani appointed to high position in UN

Vugar Allahverdiyev, an adviser to the Secretary-General's Youth Envoy at the UN Secretariat in New York, has been appointed Program Manager at the UN Counter-Terrorism Agency.

Report informs that he has held various senior positions at the UN Office in Azerbaijan and its headquarters in New York.

Vugar Allahverdiyev started his career in 2006 at the UNDP Baku Office. From 2014 to the present, he has worked at the UN Secretariat in New York as an adviser to the Secretary-General on Youth Affairs and at various positions in the UN Population Fund.

As the first Azerbaijani citizen to be appointed to the UN Counter-Terrorism Agency, our compatriot will lead a program to prevent the travel of terrorists.

The program aims to determine the routes of terrorists by air and water and create ICT-based infrastructure in UN member states to prevent such travel and ensure international cooperation in this area. The program is to be implemented in more than 50 UN member states over the next three years.

The UN Counter-Terrorism Agency is strengthening countries' capacity in the fight against terrorism and extremism at the global level and coordinating international cooperation in this area.
