Azerbaijan moves up 5 notches in UN Sustainable Development Goals Index

In the UN's Sustainable Development Report 2022, Azerbaijan advanced by five steps compared to last year and scored 73.5 out of a possible 100 points, Deputy Minister of Economy, Sahib Mammadov, said at an event on "Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index" held in Baku, Report informs.

According to him, with its position in the report, Azerbaijan left behind 2 out of every 3 countries and maintained its leading position in the South Caucasus.

So, according to the report, the country gained achievements in Goal 1 (Poverty reduction), Goal 6 (Clean water and sanitation), Goal 12 (Sustainable consumption and production), Goal 4 (Quality education), Goal 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), Goal 13 (Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts) and Goal 17 (Global partnership).

At the same time, there is a stagnation in achieving successes in Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 7 (Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all). Goal 10 (Reducing inequality), Goal 14 (sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems), and Goal 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions).
