Azerbaijan introducing mechanisms to regulate extraction, processing of precious metals

There are plans in Azerbaijan to establish regulatory acts on the composition of precious metals, technical and quality indicators of jewelry, rules for their labeling, sorting and laboratory testing, as well as a new mechanism for regulating a responsible approach to the extraction of precious metals, Chairman of the Technical Committee on Precious Metals and Stones Rovshan Amirjanov told Report.

He noted that for this purpose, it is planned to prepare drafts of new state standards in this area: "Based on the priority areas determined by the Technical Committee, a number of new projects have been prepared, which have been submitted to the Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization and included in the National Standardization Program in accordance with the established procedure."

Amirjanov added that these documents are of great importance both in terms of effective regulation of the domestic market and for ensuring competitive products on the international market. He noted that the Technical Committee also plans to develop new projects: "In particular, it envisages the development of modern technical documents that take into account digitalization, responsible mining and innovative methods of analysis. The work that will be carried out in this direction will create a solid regulatory framework for the sustainable development of the industry and more effective protection of consumer rights."
