Azerbaijan calls on G20 countries to make efforts on climate finance goal

The Minister of Finance of Azerbaijan, Samir Sharifov, called on the G20 countries to make additional efforts to achieve the climate finance goal at COP29 to be held in Baku, Report informs.

The minister spoke about that at the event titled “COP28-G20 Finance Track Event: Making Sustainable Finance Available, Accessible, and Affordable” held in Rio de Janeiro.

Sharifov noted that measures to combat the global climate crisis require immediate financial support in the necessary volume.

According to him, at the upcoming COP29 in Baku, one of the most relevant topics on the agenda will be the agreement on the new climate finance goal.

The minister emphasized that the COP29 event in Baku will become a favorable platform for defining a fair and ambitious new goal of financing and restoring confidence in the Paris Agreement. He also noted that the G20 countries can play an important role in adopting a new goal this year, and called on the finance ministers of the G 20 countries to make additional efforts in this matter.
