Baku. 20 February. REPORT.AZ/ Report collaborators have visited the school that played a great role in the development of musical education in Azerbaijan and has been functioning since 1931. On February 9, 1991, the school was named after outstanding singer, world-famous Rashid Behbudov. Since 1986 it has been led by honored art figure, expert in music Gemer Guliyeva.
Guliyeva said that 360-370 pupils study at the school every year. Discipline is very important here since it is one of the factors increasing the influence of the school.
Here the pupils are exceptionally calm and quiet. Guliyeva said children realize that they study in an elite place and they behave accordingly.
Pupils learn to play 13 musical instruments: piano, cello, nagara, flute, clarinet, trumpet, violin, tar, kemancha, balaban, canon, accordion, guitar. She said few choose to learn playing nagara and accordion.
The director noted that there are many famous people among the school graduates: “Bandmaster Eyub Guliyev, kemancha player Elnur Ahmadov studied in our school. Rustam Kerimov, who performed in Junior Eurovision, Aysel Teymurzade, Eldar Gasimov, Safura Alizade, Farid Mammadov who took part in Eurovision song contest are also our graduates.”
Guliyeva also showed us a piano in one of the rooms and told an interesting story about it: “It is Muslim Magomayev’s piano. We were friends with him. When moving from Baku, he gave the piano to me. By the way, he played a great role in my becoming a director.”
