Russian art critic: Tahir Salahov is a legend

"It's a hard pill to swallow. Tahir Salahov is a great stage and legend of modern fine art," Andrej Zolotov, vice president of the Russian Academy of Arts, told the Russian bureau of Report.

"Usually, the artist is distinguished from other people. Salahov was in harmony with the community and cultural environment, which is also a beautiful and unique feature. He was a wise man, a great artist who created his style. In other words, not everyone is fortunate enough to create a language of art that is unique and understood by everyone," said a Russian art critic.

"Salahov is the author of universal art, which seeks to unite everyone. He would discern everything, and everyone accepted his reputation. Salahov, who set an example, was also cherished in our academy. Our President Zurab Tsereteli had a special sympathy for him. He is a historical figure and a great value for our academy."

Tahir Salahov, who headed the Painting Department for more than 40 years at the Russian Academy of Arts, died last night in Germany at 92. The deceased will be buried in Baku.
