Baku hosts premiere of film about Lithuanian Tatars

A documentary film ‘The Ring of Loyalty’ has been shown in Baku, organized by the Lithuanian Embassy in Azerbaijan, Report informs.

Ambassador of Lithuania to Azerbaijan Egidijus Navikas, speaking at the premiere, said that the film tells about the life and cultural traditions of the Lithuanian Tatars since their appearance in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 14th century.

The diplomat reminded that this year has been declared in Lithuania as the Year of Lithuanian Tartar History and Culture.

The film is directed by Edita Mildazyte.

Lithuanian Tatars are one of the oldest national minorities in this country. Currently, there are about 2,500 Tatars living in the Republic of Lithuania. Most of the Lithuanian Tatars are concentrated in Alytus, Kaunas and Vilnius counties.

In February this year, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and the Lithuanian Embassy in Azerbaijan, providing for the implementation of mutual cultural exchange, protection of the cultural heritage of the minority peoples of Lithuania of Turkic origin - Tatars and Karaites.
