23rd International Film Festival opens in Tbilisi

The Tbilisi International Film Festival opened on Sunday in the capital of Georgia, Report informs citing the organizers.

The festival will be held at the Amirani cinema, with several dozen films of both Georgian and European directors to be shown. The festival opens on Sunday with 'Gareth Jones', the film by the Polish director, president of the European Film Academy Agnieszka Holland.

"I am glad that I came. At the present time, it is very important to hold such festivals, as cinema has suffered greatly due to the coronavirus, and the world is facing new dangers and challenges. At such a time, our unity and solidarity are very important," Holland told reporters upon arrival in Georgia.

The film festival will run until December 11. In 2022, only Georgian films will participate in the competition program - feature and documentary, full-length and short films. For the first time at this festival there will be a separate program, which will be made up of films applying for the Oscar award.
