UN notes need for earliest possible resumption of grain exports

Negotiations to resume grain exports need to be completed as soon as possible, as 1.5 billion people in the world depend on Ukrainian grain and Russian food and fertilizer, UN Crisis Coordinator in Ukraine Amin Awad said, Report informs referring to foreign media.

“There are 1.5 billion people in the world who need this food and fertilizer. I hope that the talks really go smoothly and are completed as soon as possible so that the lifting of the blockade of ports and the resumption of the export of fertilizer, food, happen as soon as possible before we are faced with another crisis,” the diplomat said at a briefing in Geneva.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths is meeting in Moscow with representatives of the Russian government to discuss this issue.
