The Turkish authorities intend to buy grain from Ukraine at a discount of more than 25%, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirisci said, Report informs referring to TASS.
He noted that Ankara is making active diplomatic efforts to unblock grain exports from Ukrainian ports.
“An agreement has been reached with Ukraine on the purchase of grains with more than a 25% discount. However, they face a dilemma in terms of security and export of products and want Turkiye to act as an arbiter in this process. Both Russia and Ukraine trust us,” the minister said.
He noted that two important meetings dedicated to the supply of Ukrainian grain to world markets will be held in Turkiye this week. One of them will be held in Istanbul with the participation of representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Turkiye and the UN, dedicated to the creation of an observation center for the transportation of Ukrainian grain by sea. The issues of creating a “grain corridor” will be discussed in Ankara on June 8 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The Turkish authorities previously reported that negotiations on the creation of a so-called grain center in Istanbul are generally going well and deliveries of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea and through the straits may begin in the near future.
