Azerbaijan to start vaccination of wild animals against rabies tomorrow

The Azerbaijan Food Security Agency (AFSA), together with relevant authorities of the country, will start vaccinating wild carnivores against rabies tomorrow, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan.

Specialists of the Agrarian Services Agency (ASA) under the Ministry, together with the AFSA and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, will lay out 18,000 bait briquettes containing the vaccine using a helicopter.

The briquettes are planned to be scattered on a route of about 600 km in forests around villages in Shamakhi, Aghsu, Ismayilli, Gabala, Oghuz, Shaki, Gakh, Zagatala and Balakan districts. Besides, AAU experts will manually spread 62,000 bait briquettes in the named territories.

According to the current norm, there should be at least 25 briquettes-baits per 1 sq. km of forest area.

Vaccination of predatory wild animals and stray dogs will play an essential role in preventing the spread of rabies in high-risk areas.
