MP: 5B manats to be allocated for agriculture development program

A total of 5 billion manats ($2.9 billion) is planned to be allocated for the implementation of the State Program for the Development of Production and Processing of Agricultural, Fisheries and Aquaculture Products for 2026-2030.

Report informs that Rizvan Nabiyev, a member of the Supervisory Board of the NGO Agency and a member of the Milli Majlis, said this at a public discussion with agriculture-focused NGOs on "New priorities in the development of Azerbaijan's agriculture."

According to him, under the program's financial support framework, the state is expected to allocate 2 billion manats ($1.2 billion), while an additional 3 billion manats ($1.8 billion) is planned to be attracted from the private sector.

"In this regard, public-private partnership mechanisms are once again coming to the fore. It is also important to take into account the opinions and proposals of experts and specialists with experience in the sector," he said.

Nabiyev noted that special attention is being paid to the use of the potential of the liberated territories.

"Twenty-five percent of the country's total water resources are concentrated in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur. Bringing these resources into circulation, building 10 new water reservoirs and modernizing existing reservoirs will make it possible to increase irrigated agricultural land to 300,000 hectares. Currently, this figure is less than half of that target. This is an extremely important goal, because irrigation is considered one of the main factors in forming a modern agricultural system," he said.

Nabiyev emphasized that another important area is the expansion of digitalization, the application of artificial intelligence technologies and the strengthening of experience exchange with developed countries in this field.

"All these steps serve the development of the economy and the further strengthening of economic sovereignty," he added.
