Azerbaijani minister notes increasing interest and demand for halal food production

In modern times, interest and demand for food products based on halal standards are increasing worldwide, the Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, said at the Azerbaijan Halal Business and Tourism Forum held in Baku, Report informs.

"Today, food safety for producers and traders, and delivering quality food products to consumers is the most important obligation. In this regard, a great responsibility falls on the economic entities engaged in the production and trade of agricultural and food products. Increasing productivity and quality in the agricultural and processing industries has become one of the essential requirements to meet the growing food needs of the population and increase the range and volume of exported products," he noted.

"Azerbaijan, with its rich cultural heritage and centuries-old Islamic civilization history, has great potential for further development of the halal industry in the region. Our country's clean air, fertile soil, and pure water resources create great opportunities in the production of environmentally friendly food products. Holding prestigious international events in Azerbaijan, which has a favorable geographical position, and the implementation of giant transnational transport projects further increase the attractiveness of our country as a tourist destination and lead to an increase in the number of tourists. The recent influx of numerous tourists from Muslim countries necessitates the development of the halal food sector and the application of halal tourism standards in Azerbaijan. In addition, the development of entrepreneurship and extensive state support for the agricultural sector in our republic create the basis for the development of the halal food and tourism sector," the minister added.
