FAO to support expansion of cooperation in Azerbaijan's agricultural sector

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) plans to implement a project to support cooperatives in Azerbaijan, Bariz Mehdiyev, assistant to the representative of FAO in Azerbaijan, told Report.

According to him, this project is planned to be implemented within FAO's technical assistance program:

"Cooperatives in agriculture are supported by the government. Within the framework of our project, cooperatives' opportunities for investments, access to the market, and the purchase of production equipment will increase.

"The state is planning to introduce new support mechanisms related to cooperatives. Cooperatives formed by farmers and other entrepreneurs operating in the agricultural sector can use these mechanisms to receive subsidies and have easier access to financial institutions."

Mehdiyev believes that cooperation can also prevent water loss by establishing pivot irrigation systems in agricultural areas.
