Azerbaijan is a frontrunner in food control system assessment and is the first country in the region to do this work, UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) expert Anna Vasilenko told the event on the concept of “Evaluation instruments of the food control system in Azerbaijan” held in Baku, Report informs.
“We made great efforts together with the government of Azerbaijan, we had intensive activities. The work was done mainly by the competent food safety government officials of Azerbaijan, who are responsible for food safety. Our evaluation activity focuses on how well control functions are organized, designed, and planned for Azerbaijani consumers. This assessment is being carried out for the first time in the entire Eastern Europe and Central Asia region. Azerbaijan is the leader in this process and the first country in the region, a pioneer. Although the national food control system is very young in Azerbaijan, its work is highly appreciated. Healthy systems always want to improve themselves, as we see here in Azerbaijan. We did not identify any major flaws, gaps. A very good indicator for a young system. But there are certain aspects that need to be raised to a higher level. The Food Safety Agency has made great efforts to establish this system. We are pleased with the results,” the expert said.
