Azerbaijan closes the top three largest persimmon producers in the world with 192,400 metric tons, Report informs referring to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The main suppliers of persimmons in the world market are China (3.429 million metric tons), South Korea (200,600 metric tons), Azerbaijan (192,400 metric tons), Japan (187,900 metric tons) and Brazil (170,200 metric tons).
According to the FAO forecast, the growth of the global persimmon market in 2023 - 2028 will be 6.16% per year. Ultimately, the global persimmon market is expected to grow from $0.84 billion in 2023 to $1.13 billion in 2028.
In 2021, persimmon exports in value terms increased by 12.7% compared to 2018 and reached $620.1 million. During this period, Spain, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan were the leading persimmon exporters.
High persimmon prices in importing countries and the organization of production in a number of countries are cited as the main reason for this increase in exports. In countries such as Germany, the US, etc., where there is no production or its volume is extremely low, there is a high demand for persimmon.
China continues to be the main persimmon exporter in the global market.
